Howdy!
my mate Daniel and myself finally managed to do the winter hike we talked about for weeks. It was all very spontaneous (wanna hike tomorrow? – sure)so we didnt do much research. Which would come back to us the next day.
So I got up at 6, picked him up at 7 and we started our hike at 9.30 from beautiful Ehrwald. Quite funny to walk past all these Skiers and Snowboarders with our normal hiking boots and mostly gear i would wear in late summer as well.
We found a road up the mountain an decided that this probably is the start of the trail-route we picked. When we arrived at the huts in the middle of the ski-resort we first got out our Garmin to check if we were on track – we were not
as you can see we then decided to go find a little trail to come back to the route we planned to take. So we crossed a lot of skiers, had a laugh at some of them and the found what probably was the trail (it was not). Some Ski-tourers paved a little path into the snow, so we decided to follow that trail- “it will probably lead us somewhere” after the first steps we realized, that just because some Ski-Dude flattened the snow it doesnt carry some 100kg of a dude on hikingboots. So we had ourself a little workout, because the distance on that trail was only about 100-150 meters.
As you can see we didnt really follow the marked path, which we corrected as we realized this. So we climbed about 90hm in about 100m distance… you do the math how steep that part was. As soon as we got back on the path for the cross-country skiers we decided to stay there and just go up to the Viewpoint (see map above).
Its was the first time i actually cancelled a route i was on, but without snowshoes there was no way of completing the route we planned.
If anyone has a recommendation on snowshoes for me, i would highly appreciate a comment below, or if you write me an email.
So long, have a beautiful time!
Alex
